Anne Waller is a London-based painter whose work centres on still life and direct observation. She works with everyday, cultural and natural objects, currently focusing on forms from the natural world.

Working on an intimate scale, she returns to the same subject repeatedly over an extended period. Through a slow, attentive process of looking, subtle shifts in light, tone and form gradually emerge. She is interested in the idea of a painting holding time within it, and how this relates to subject matter that has organically grown.

She is interested in how the natural world has been represented and understood within still life painting, and how these meanings have shifted historically. Her current work considers what it means to paint natural forms today, engaging with ideas of beauty, fragility and conservation.
